About the Book

Anyone who has grown up in a Hindu home knows that traditions are passed down orally to future generations by practicing together. This beautiful communal spirit, however, also makes it difficult to practice the same traditions when we are on our own.

Book Layout

The book is divided into 12 sections, each of which is a major Hindu festival widely celebrated in India and throughout the world.

Each festival is broken down into 3 sections: Philosophy, Practice and Play.

Philosophy

The first section is on the Sanatana Dharma philosophy behind each festival with a particular focus on how we can engage in self development through celebrating.

Practice

The second section is broken down into 2 sections: Prayer and Puja. The Prayer section provides a mantra specific to the festival being celebrated. The Puja section provides step by step instructions on how to engage in worship, including a list of items that are useful.

Play

The Play section provides seekers with a fun way to engage in the festival. This might be through an art and craft, game or interactive activity. The Prasad section contains a recipe for prasad which may be offered to the deity during Puja as an expression of gratitude for life.
